Carol J. Lindsay

Carol J. Ysteboe was born November 21, 1927, in Fargo, ND, to Ivan and Hazel (Quanbeck) Ysteboe. They lived in the Finley and Blabon, ND, area until the death of her father, when she was fourteen years old. The family then moved to Fargo, where she graduated from Oak Grove Lutheran High School, as valedictorian, in 1945.

Carol attended Augsburg College, Minneapolis, MN, for one year and then returned to Fargo where she worked for Hektner Insurance to pay for her college tuition. She graduated, magna cum laude, from Concordia College in Moorhead, MN, in 1951. After she graduated, Carol worked for Lutheran Social Services with the placement of children into area homes.

Carol married her best friend and the love of her life, Wallace "Wally" Lindsay, on August 7, 1953, in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church in Fargo. They had sixty wonderful years together. Carol worked at home when her children were young. In the fall of 1968, she began her long career at Oak Grove Lutheran High School. She wore many hats at Oak Grove, from secretary, coordinating destinations for the choir tours, working in the development office, and school archives. While her children were attending Oak Grove, she and Wally were surrogate parents to many kids who all loved them right back. There were always freshly baked chocolate chip cookies in the home, no one could make better ones. The grandchildren loved sleep-overs, and her skinny pancake breakfast.

Carol died suddenly on Saturday, January 4, 2014, at Sanford Health, Fargo, at eighty-six years of age.

She is survived by her husband, Wallace, Moorhead; son, Keith Lindsay, Fargo; daughter, Doreen (Arron) Smith, MN; five grandchildren, Joshua (Lynsey) Johnson, Aaron Johnson, and Caleb (Nancy) Johnson, all Fargo, Claire (Kris) Duenow, MN, and Aubrey Lindsay, MN; three great-grandchildren, Addison Dabill, Wyatt Johnson, and Sage Johnson; brother, James (Elaine) Ysteboe, NC; and three sisters, Lillian (Kenneth) Ose, Benson, MN, Ruth (Larry) Engelstad, MN, and Elaine (David) Vold, ND.

There in heaven to greet Carol were her parents; one brother, Howard Ysteboe; and one great-grandchild, Little foot.

Visitation for Carol will be Tuesday, January 7, 2014, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Her funeral will be Wednesday, January 8, 2014, at 11 AM, in Pontoppidan Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Memorials are preferred to Pontoppidan Lutheran Church or Oak Grove Lutheran High School.
