Carrie Olson

Carrie Olson, 55, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, April 14, 2023, at Sanford Health West Campus, Fargo, ND.

Rebecca Carrie Rix was born June 28, 1967, the daughter of Richard Rix and Becky (Jorgenson) Cusey, in Morris, MN.  She was raised in Moorhead, MN, where she graduated from Moorhead High School.  After high school, she attended Concordia College in Moorhead where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education.

On December 22, 1988, she married the love of her life, John Olson at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Moorhead where she was a life-long member. They had two children, Blake born in 1992 and Paige in 1996. Carrie and John lived in Spokane, WA, and Billings, MT, where she worked in early childhood education, until moving back to Moorhead in 1997. After returning to Moorhead, Carrie was a stay-at-home mom until her children entered elementary school. Carrie then began a career in healthcare as a patient advocate where she lived her passion for helping people before retiring in 2020.

Carrie’s greatest pride was her children, she loved encouraging and supporting them through all their activities, milestones, and life achievements, never missing a single event. Her favorite days were spent enjoying summertime at the lake in her “tiny house” and cuddled up in her heated blanket on the pontoon. Carrie’s extensive gnome collection decorated their entire home and camper. Carrie loved to spend time with her incredible group of friends, family, and neighbors. She enjoyed hosting holidays and parties, always making sure everyone was taken care of with plenty of food and beverages. Her loving and caring nature brought smiles and joy to everyone who had the pleasure of knowing her. Carrie never missed the opportunity to give big hugs and say I love you.

She is survived by her husband of thirty-four years, John; son, Blake, Breckenridge, MN; daughter, Paige (Tanner) Hennen, Moorhead; mother, Becky (Doug Kloss) Cusey, Moorhead; father, Richard (Lona) Rix, Mesa, AZ; brothers, Richard (Heather) Rix II, and Brad (Michelle) Cusey, both of Moorhead; and to all those who call her “Auntie”. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; and stepfather, David Cusey.

A Gathering of Family and Friends for Carrie will be on Friday, April 21, 2023 from 5:00 PM until 6:30 PM, with a 6:30 PM, Prayer Service in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead.

Her Life Celebration Service will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 22, 2023, in Our Savior’s Lutheran Church. 

Carrie’s family invites you to continue celebrating her life at a private social gathering at Midtown Tavern in Moorhead on Saturday, April 22 from 7:00PM to 10:00PM.
