Cenora J. Grivno

Cenora J. Grivno, 95, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, October 11, 2024, in SMP Health-St. Catherine South, Fargo, ND. 

Cenora Javonne Grivno was born August 2, 1929, the daughter of Alfred and Esther (Olman) Olson, on the family farm near Faith, MN. She was raised on the family farm where she attended Faith County school and after receiving her education lended her support to neighboring farm wives. 

On November 7, 1948, Cenora married John Grivno at Faith, MN. Together, they established their home on Grivno family farm where John farmed alongside his father. In 1952, they relocated Moorhead where Cenora devoted her time to raising her children before going to work at JCPenney. Later she would start working at St. Luke’s Clinic in Fargo as a Lab Technician, where she dedicated twenty-six years of service before retiring. In 2013, Cenora moved to Pioneer House in Fargo to be closer to John. After John’s passing on June 23, 2015, she continued living at Pioneer House until moving to St. Catherine South in 2021. 

Cenora and John shared many joyful years at their lake home on Star Lake where they enjoyed fishing together. They also spent several winters in Florida and created many memories traveling over the years. A gifted musician, Cenora, had the talent for playing the piano, organ and accordion by ear. She was also an exceptional seamstress, known for designing and sewing beautiful outfits for many special occasions throughout her life for many. 

She is survived by her children, Jennifer (Mike) McMahon, West Fargo, ND and Roger (Barbara) Grivno, Peach Tree City, GA; grandchildren, Cory (Diana) McMahon, Shaun (Samantha) McMahon, Jeffrey (Sara) Grivno, Benjamin (Susan) Grivno, and Michele Grivno; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; sister, Elaine Borgen, Moorhead; brothers, Dennis Olson, Fargo and Keith Olson, Twin Valley; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, John. 

A Visitation for Cenora will begin at 10:00 AM, Tuesday October 15, 2024, followed her Funeral Service at 11:00 AM, at Our Redeemer’s Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN. She will be laid to rest in Moorhead Memorial Gardens.
