Charles 'Chuck' Durkee, 66, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in his home under the care of his family as well as Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Charles "Chuck" Alfred Durkee, 66, Fargo, ND, died on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, in his home after a 5 month battle with cancer. He was cared for by his family and Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Chuck Durkee was born September 27, 1947, in Fargo to Milt and Lila (Erickson) Durkee. Chuck was raised in Abercrombie, ND, and the family moved to Fargo, where he attended junior high, Central High School, and North Dakota State University. He spent 40 years working in the social work area with the developmentally disabled and in custody investigations. Chuck had a kind heart and always tried to be an advocate for those weaker and in need.

Chuck married Marilyn Selle in June 1970. They have two children, Tiffany April (Erik) Sather, Minneapolis, MN, and Joshua Charles Durkee, Fargo. In addition, Chuck is survived by his three month old grandson, Haaken Charles Sather; a sister, Georgia (Ken) Lindsey, Sun City, AZ; a brother, Bryan Durkee, Rockville, MN; and many precious nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Chuck loved the Lord and wanted that for everyone. His family was very dear to him. He was an avid baseball collector beginning at a young age, a hobby which he and Josh continued throughout his life. When he found he was ill, he covered his walls with things he had collected so he could enjoy them every day. Chuck enjoyed participating in many sports and played baseball, fast pitch softball, tennis and basketball at various times in his life, along with bowling on several leagues.

Visitation will begin at 12 noon, with a memorial service at 1 PM, on Monday, March 10, 2014, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
