Charles “Chuck” Green, age 89, Fargo, ND, passed away at his home on Sunday, November 5, 2023, with his wife, Phyllis, by his side.
Chuck was born November 27, 1933, to Tommy and Frances (Slocum) Green on the home farm just outside of Fairmount ND, in LaMars Township. The youngest of four children, with three sisters, Blanche, Evelyn, and Anna Marie. He attended rural LaMars #2 School through the eighth grade. He graduated from Fairmount High School in 1951 and followed up with two years at North Dakota State College of Science. He worked on the home farm with his father until he volunteered for the draft in the Army in 1955. He was released from active duty in May of 1957, followed by six years of inactive service before discharge in 1963. Chuck attended Concordia College in Moorhead MN, graduating with a degree in Mathematics and a minor in Psychology in May of 1959.
Chuck was married to Norma Larson in 1960, at the Fairmount Methodist Church. After 29 years of marriage, living primarily in West Fargo ND, Norma passed away in July of 1989. Chuck was fortunate to find another soulmate, Phyllis (Pederson) Weyhrauch, whom he married in August of 1990. They enjoyed 13 years at their lake home in Minnesota and 17 years in their home in South Fargo. They spent a great deal of time traveling, including many winters in Arizona.
Chuck’s work career involved actuarial work, starting with Security Life and Accident in Denver, CO, followed by the Social Security Administration in Baltimore, MD, and six years at Lafayette Life in Lafayette, IN. Chuck retired in 1989, after 22 years at Pioneer Mutual Life Insurance in Fargo.
NASCAR was something Chuck found great joy watching. He knew the stats about all the tracks and all the drivers and had the fortune of attending several races. He was also a fan of country music. Chuck enjoyed many Canadian fishing trips throughout the years highlighted with the sinking of his boat in 1973. Faith was always an important part of his life, having been a member of West Fargo Presbyterian Church, Zion Lutheran Church on Franklin Lake and most recently Dilworth Lutheran Church. Chuck spent a great deal of time reading and studying the Bible.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two children, Tammy (Tim) Brumfield, and Tim (Arlys Berg) Green; four step-children, Pam (Mike) Costello, Pat (Joel) Haraldson, Wayne (Michele) Weyhrauch, and Wally Weyhrauch; 14 grandchildren, Adam Brumfield, Mandy (Brad) Lemmel, Josh (Leah) Green, Jamie (Garet) Molde, Jenna (Brock) Drayton, Michael (Katie) Frisco, Jamie Cariveau, Jenny (Jeremy) Hamre, Tom (Danielle) Costello, Bryanne (Wade) Haaland, Jacob (Kelly) Haraldson, Bridget (Ryan) Wuollet, Ashlie Weyhrauch, and Tanya (Adam) Watson; 31 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and in-law’s.
Chuck was preceded in death by his first spouse, parents, his sisters, many in-laws, and his little dog, Marco.
Memorials can be given in Chuck’s honor to St. Jude Hospital or Dilworth Lutheran Church.
Funeral Service will be at 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Dilworth Lutheran Church with viewing beginning at 10:00 AM. Lunch will be served immediately following the ceremony with burial to follow at Fairmount Cemetery at 2:30 PM, 2.5 miles south of Fairmount, ND, on highway 127.
