Charles T. Gilbertson, 85, of Moorhead, MN, died on Monday, July 1, 2019, in Farmstead Assisted Living, Moorhead.
Charles Theodore Gilbertson was born June 4, 1934, the son of Theodore and Mabel (Anderson) Gilbertson in Clay County, MN. As a young boy the family moved to rural Pelican Rapids, MN, where he attended school. He then went to work for Martin Beach as a lineman working in South Dakota.
On December 13, 1954, he was united in marriage to Gloria Nado in Huron, SD. They made their home in Detroit Lakes, MN, where Charlie worked for the City of Detroit Lakes. In 1964, the family moved to Moorhead where he began working as a lineman for Northern States Power (now Xcel Energy) until he retired after thirty years of service.
In 1981, Charlie built a lake home on Lake McDonald. He enjoyed many years at the lake with his family and friends. He had extra special memories of time spent with his brother Gordon and longtime friend, neighbor and co-worker, Jim Zeis. Charlie also enjoyed playing cards, snowmobiling, fishing and a nice cold beer.
He is survived by his wife of sixty-four years, Gloria; sons, Michael (Nancy) Gilbertson, Hazen, ND; John Gilbertson and Joe Gilbertson of Moorhead; daughter-in-law, Mary Gilbertson, West Fargo, ND; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sisters, Myrtle Kittlelson, Detroit Lakes, MN; Gladys Hammill, Grasston, MN; and Dorothy (Larry) Peterson, Detroit Lakes, MN; brother, Gordon Gilbertson, Detroit Lakes, MN; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Daniel; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth; grandson, Timothy; brothers, Oscar, Lawrence, Jerome; and sisters, Ruth, Thora, Alice, Evelyn.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the local Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org/mnnd) or your favorite charity.
Charlie's Funeral Service will be Monday, July 8, 2019, at 11:00 AM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Visitation will be one hour prior to his service.
Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
