Charlie Henry Wettstein was born June 17, 1927, in Wahpeton, ND to Joseph and Veronica (Braun) Wettstein. He graduated from Lidgerwood High School in 1945. Shortly thereafter, he enlisted and served in the United States Navy spending time in Japan.
On April 24, 1950, he married Caroline Polansky and they made their home in Fargo. In 1953 they moved to Moorhead where they raised their family. Charlie was employed with the Bell Telephone companies and retired after 36 years of service from A.T.&T.
Charlie was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and School serving on the School Board and many church committees. He was an active 4th degree knight of the Knights of Columbus. Summers were spent at West McDonald Lake where he enjoyed the lake country life. In retirement, Charlie and Caroline enjoyed winters in Brownsville, TX and traveling the U.S.
Charles died Tuesday, March 14, at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, ND, at the age of 78.
Charlie is survived by his wife, Caroline; 4 sons and 2 daughters, Charles (Pamela) Wettstein of Katy, TX; Jeffrey (Kathleen) Wettstein of Moorhead; Michael (Mary) Wettstein and Kenneth (Ruth) Wettstein both of Rosemount, MN; Susan (Robert) Meyhuber of Frazee, MN; and Katharine (Lee) Eggiman of Moorhead; 16 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, Mollie and Jeff and their daughter Caroline, Benjamin (Teylor), Mitchell, Jason, Karen, Kayla, Ashley, Jack, Ryan, Julie (Jason) and their daughters Maya & Mari, Andrew, Steven (Aimee), Jennifer, Anthony, Daniel, and Kelli; 1 brother, Richard (Margaret) Wettstein of Lidgerwood, ND.
Charlie is preceded in death by 3 grandchildren, Hollie & Heather Meyhuber and Christopher Wettstein; and a sister, Beatrice Anderson.
