Char was born June 28, 1924, in Harvey, ND, to John and Caroline (Satra) Hanson. She was raised in the Harvey area and attended rural school for her education.
Char married John W. Hendricks in 1948 and moved to St. Cloud, MN. She later married William J. Counihan in 1959 and made their home in Moorhead, MN. Char worked in various establishments in the Fargo-Moorhead area as a bartender and waitress.
She later worked at the Holiday Inn, Fargo, and the Ramada Inn, Moorhead, as a housekeeper until she retired in 1987.
Char passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, at St. Mary's Hospital, Detroit Lakes, MN, at eighty-four years of age.
Char was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Char is survived by her three daughters, Debbie (Greg) Harr, Jamestown, ND, Becky (Larry) Towne, Mandan, ND, and Dawn (Jeff) Gilbertson, Moorhead; one son, Jeff Hendricks, Wilton, ND; a brother, Harland (Alice) Hanson, Fargo; nine grandchildren; and seven
She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Stella Knutson, Mabel Gardner, Edna Sorteberg, Inez Weed, Lillian Schmidt, Hazel Mathison and Adeline Konschak; and a brother, Forrest Hanson.
The funeral for Char will be Saturday, April 25, 2009, at 1 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Visitation will be in the Chapel one hour before the funeral.
