Chester F. Eiken, 94, Moorhead, MN, died in his home, Sunday, February 27, 2005, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Chester Francis Eiken, son of Nickalie and Sophia (Rugland) Eiken, was born December 16, 1910, in Portland, ND, where he grew up and graduated from high school.
Chester was united in marriage to Valerie J. "Bobbie" Puhalla on January 5, 1942, in Moorhead. He served four years in the United States Army from December, 1941, to his discharge at Fort Sam Houston, TX, on December 24, 1946. He served in the 137th Infantry, 35th division, M Company, 3rd Battalion.
In 1947, he and Valerie made their home in Fargo, ND, and in 1951, moved to Moorhead. Chester was employed by Berg Fargo Motor, Fargo, and later worked for 24 years at Northwestern Equipment, Fargo, retiring in June of 1975.
Chester in survived by his wife, Valerie, Moorhead; two sisters, Marilyn (Duane) Fugleberg, Federal Way, WA, and Betty (Howard) Holkesvig, Portland; two sisters-in-law, Beverly Eiken, Kent, WA, and Helen Eiken, Portland; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Kenneth, Vernon, Carmen, Ardise, Arndt and Harland; and one sister, Florence Birkeland.
