Claremont Wendell Lien, 81, of Fargo, ND, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 23, 2012. He was under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.
Monty was born November 13, 1930, to Phillip and Ella (Eidem) Lien in Twin Valley, MN.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. He served in Japan, The Philippines, and Okinawa as a heavy equipment operator.
Monty was the road captain for the Red River Valley Motorcycle Club from 1951-1952. He rode his Harley and Indian motorcycles year round.
In 1950, he met Leona Johnson. They were married on August 6, 1952, in Moorhead, MN. They lived in Moorhead from 1959 to 1990. Their second home, which Monty built, was a beautiful lake cabin in Crystal Hills, MN. In 1997, Monty and Leona moved to Davenport, ND, where they lived until 2011, when they moved to Edgewood Vista in Fargo.
Monty and Leona celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on August 6, 2012.
Monty is survived by his wife, Leona; their three children, Carlee O'Dell, Fargo, and her son, Chris (Julie) O'Dell of Cary, NC, Cindy Lien, Fargo, and children, Whitney Lien (Jason Marek) of Fargo, Joey Trelstad of Fargo, and Jesse Trelstad of West Fargo, ND; and Jeff Lien (Kim) and children, Cody and Dillon of Horace, ND, and Dustin (Shelly) Gustafson of West Fargo; seven great-grandchildren, Rob, Eric, Stephen, Warren, Aiden, Madison, and Jordan. He is also survived by his siblings, Gloria, Denver, and Clark; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation for Monty will be Sunday, August 26, 2012, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
His funeral will be Monday, August 27, 2012, at 10:30 AM, in Our Savior's Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
