Clinton A. Sather, 85, Moorhead, MN, died on Saturday, Jan. 28, 2006, in his home.
Clinton Angelo Sather was born Nov. 12, 1920, to Ole and Martha Sather in Ulen, MN. He attended school in Keene Township and Ulen. He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before he was drafted in to the US Army Air Corps in 1942. He trained as an aircraft mechanic and then was assigned to a B17 Bomber as a gunner. During WWII, he served with the 452nd Bomb Squadron in the European Theatre of War. His aircraft was shot down during a bombing raid over Germany; he was captured and imprisoned in Luft Stalag #4 for 1-½ years. Following the war, he received an honorable discharge and returned to Ulen, MN. In 1949 he married Irene Winjum and they made their home in Moorhead. He worked for Collins Construction during which time he attended Dakota Business College and received his degree in accounting. In 1977 he began work as office manager of Fargo Trailer Center until he retired in 1985. Irene died in 1982.
Clinton was married to Eleanor Mitchell on Jan. 12, 1991, and they lived in Moorhead. Clinton was an active member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, a life member of the Moorhead VFW, a member of the American Legion, DAV, and was past commander of the Red River Chapter of American Ex-POW.
He is survived by his wife of fifteen years, Eleanor Sather; his sons, Gary Sather, San Diego, CA, and Dale (Berta) Sather, Moorhead; three grandchildren, Kyle, Tyler, and Rayna; stepchildren, Steve Mitchell, Fargo, Linda (Jim) Lease, Fargo, Becky (Rick) Hoselton, Fargo, Dan Mitchell, Seattle, WA, Tim (Andrea) Mitchell, Holman, WI, Sheila (James) Strickland, Clinton, MD, and Rick Mitchell, Menominee, WI; twelve stepgrandchildren; nine stepgreat-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Myrtle Sather, Ulen, MN; and his beloved dog, Sadie. He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and two sisters.
