Conrad N. Wiger

Conrad Nels Wiger went home to be with the Lord on January 7, 2010, at MeritCare Hospital.
Conrad was born to Alfred N. and Jessie Sirjord Wiger on a farm northwest of Ulen, MN, on May 31, 1929. He attended school in Ulen and one year at Northwest School of Agriculture, graduating in 1947. Conrad attended Luther College, Concordia College, University of Nebraska, and the University of Maryland. Much of his post-secondary education was completed while in military service. He held a degree in Business Administration and History; and he also completed a farm management course.
Conrad worked with his father on the farm until 1953, when he entered the US Air Force. He was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in 1955, and served in Thule, Greenland, prior to going to pilot training. During Conrad's twenty years of military service, he served with the Strategic Air Command and Military Air Lift Command. He served in Korea, and in Vietnam, was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and several air medals for combat.
In 1959, Conrad married Darlene Rose Hespen from Lincoln, Nebraska. They were blessed with three daughters: Melodie, Rebecca, and Hannah.
As a young man, Conrad received Jesus Christ as his Savior and began his walk with the Lord, taking that relationship very seriously. As the military life took him many places, he served through the local church, teaching Sunday School, lay-preaching and helping in church planting where needed.
After military retirement in 1973, Conrad and family moved back to Ulen and the farm, where he enjoyed gardening, fishing, hunting, and woodcutting. In 1990, Conrad and family moved to Moorhead, MN.

The funeral for Conrad will be Tuesday, January 12, 2009, at 11 AM, at Metropolitan Baptist Church, 2612 - 25th Street South, Fargo.
Visitation will be at the church one hour before the funeral.
Burial, with full military honors, will be Memorial Day, May, 31, 2010.
