Cynthia Ann Kersting was born September 15, 1942, in Fargo, ND, to Michael and Dorothy (Chloupek) Kersting. She grew up in Waubun, MN, where she graduated from high school.
Cynthia married Marvin Schlick at St. Anne's Catholic Church in Waubun, on August 20, 1960. They made their home in Moorhead, MN. Cynthia graduated from Josef's School of Hair Design, Fargo, and began her career as a cosmetologist. She owned and operated the Golden Mirror Beauty Salon in Moorhead until 1974.
In the presence of her family and friends, Cynthia died Tuesday, June 15, 2010, at MeritCare Palliative Care Unit, Fargo, at sixty-seven years of age.
Throughout her life, Cynthia was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. She was actively involved in church activities, her favorite of which was singing with the St. Joseph Catholic Church Choir. She also sang with the F-M Sweet Adeline barbershop chorus for over ten years, competing twice in international competition in Seattle, WA, in 1975 and in London, England, in 1977. Cynthia also contributed her musical talents to two vocal quartets and as a choreographer.
Cynthia spent endless hours in the kitchen and especially enjoyed entertaining all of her family and extended relatives for the Thanksgiving holidays for over thirty years. Making kolaches for her family and her church was her specialty. Cynthia was an avid bird watcher and outdoor enthusiast. She hosted quite a bit of wildlife in her backyard, including deer and turkeys! We all enjoyed getting a close up look at all the activity going on outside her kitchen window
Her greatest commitment was to her family, all of whom were witness to the dedication and love she shared and taught by example. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and everyone who knew her.
Cynthia is survived by her husband Marvin; daughter, Jacqueline, and her son Jacob; son, Brian, and his wife Jan Wegge, and their two children, Sophie and Angus; and son, Michael, and his sons, Christian and Samuel, and stepsons, Matthew and Andrew; and one sister, Yvonne (Ken) Bregel.
There will be a gathering of friends Sunday, June 20, 2010, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
The memorial mass will be Monday, June 21, 2010, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Inurnment will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
