Dale C. Hahn

August 8, 1952 — July 8, 2005

Dale Charles Hahn, 52, Hawley, MN, died unexpectedly Friday evening, July 8, 2005, at Innovis Health, Fargo, ND.

Dale was born in Lisbon, ND, to Harold and Margaret (Mahrer) Hahn on August 8, 1952. He grew up in Leonard, ND, attending school K-12. He was active in all sports and school band programs. He participated in Boys State and was the recipient of the American Legion Award. He attended NDSU in Bottineau, ND, graduating with an Associate Degree in Forestry in 1972.

He worked at Gold Label Feeds in West Fargo, ND, for a year as a truck dispatcher. He then pursued his avocation and took a job as a sales clerk with Daveau Music Co. in Fargo. Schmitt Music of Minneapolis purchased Daveau in the spring of 1974. Dale continued with the company, eventually becoming musical instrument department store manager, until the time of his death.

Dale married Pamela Loe in March 1974 and they had four children. Their lives were filled with music, camping, fishing and lots of friends and family. They made their home in Moorhead, MN, until 1988, and then moved to a home in the country near Hawley, MN. Dale truly loved the country life and became an expert groomer of his 2½ acres. He had many big bonfire parties for his friends and neighbors.

Dale was a gifted artist and expressed it through his woodcarvings. He was an avid golfer and won the Leonard Golf Club Championship four times during his life. He taught his wife and children this game and they golfed together frequently. He even made customized golf clubs for a time. He became addicted to fishing after moving to Hawley and went as often as he could-summer and winter. He served as a Boy Scout leader for many years with his boys. He spent many years actively participating at his church in music worship and other areas.

Dale was a self-taught guitarist playing acoustic and electric and continued learning to play many other instruments including the banjo, harmonica, dobro guitar, mandolin and bass guitar. He played the bass guitar in a band called The Good ‘Ol Boys. They played at many wedding dances and weekends at many small town events surrounding Fargo/Moorhead. The band stayed together for 17 years and ended their run under the name of Rockin' Bob. In addition, he taught group guitar lessons at Schmitt Music for many years.

Dale is survived by his wife, Pam; children, Katie (Tim) Glaser of Grandin, ND, Joseph (Mannheim, Germany), and Scott, Hawley; mother, Margaret, Fargo; brother, Larry (Maureen), Minco, OK; sister, Jean (Rod) Lamberson, Leonard; sister-in-law, Linda (Don)
