Dale M. Near, sixty years young, passed away Saturday July 5, 2014, at his home in Casselton, ND, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley, and surrounded by family.
He was born in Marietta, GA, October 22, 1953, to Bill and Evelyn (Serck) Near. The family moved to Moorhead, MN, where Dale graduated from high school in 1972. He married Suzann Snippen August 31, 1974, and had a daughter, Sienna Michelle, on August 4, 1977. Dale and Suzann parted ways in 1987, but remained close until the end.
Dale worked as a Clay County Correctional Officer for eighteen years. He later moved to Casselton, and worked part-time at Gordy's. Dale enjoyed fishing, bowling, wood-working and playing guitar. He was a fan of the Twins and even the Vikings sometimes!
Dale was preceded in death by his father, Bill, and mother, Evelyn.
He is survived by daughter, Sienna (Tim) Anderson, Fargo, ND; special granddaughter, Olivia; sister, Norma (Sonny) Mortenson, Wisconsin; brother, James (Carmen) Near, North Dakota; uncle, Melvin Serck, Iowa; and nephew, Brian (Elisabeth) Mortenson.
At Dale's specific request, the family is having a 'celebration of his life' party at Sunset Lanes in Moorhead, Saturday, July 12, 2014, from 2 - 4 PM. Everyone is welcome and the family asks that all cards/donations/flowers be brought to Sunset the day of party or mailed to 1218 North 5th Street Fargo, ND, 58102
