Danny M. Offerdahl, 58, Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, April 19, 2011, at his home under the care of his loving family with support from hospice staff.
Danny was born in Northwood, ND, on March 9, 1953, to Chester and Olive (Ovrid) Offerdahl. He was raised on a farm near Northwood, and graduated from Northwood High School in 1971. He attended NDSU and NDSCS, obtaining an associate degree in electrical technology in 1974. On June 14, 1975, he married Kathryn "Kathy" Maristuen. Danny and Kathy have had their homes in Minot, ND, Bismarck, ND, Champlin, MN, and Moorhead.
After completion of the JATC apprenticeship program, Dan worked as a journeyman electrician for various contractors through the IBEW. In 1980, he obtained his masters electrician license. He had high regard for the importance of continuing education for the industry and played an active role in this by being both apprenticeship and journeyman training instructor through the JATC, and provided continuing education programs in ND and MN. He had been employed as the electrical inspector for the City of Fargo, ND, since 1989. He participated on many state electrical code discussion panels. He was an active member of the IAEI, having received the ND Chapter Distinguish Service Award in 2003.
Dan had a strong sense of family and cherished every moment with them. He was a good handyman, fixing just about anything that was broken or needing repair. He loved being outdoors, and lived for going to the camper May through September at Long Lake, Detroit Lakes, MN. At his most favorite moments, one could find him sitting in the sun on the deck of the camper with his cleaned and polished Mustang in sight, listening to music, cold one in hand and smoking a good cigar.
He is survived by his spouse, Kathy; his sons, Cory (Brandi Pfaff), Ryan (Allana), and Eric; grandsons, Ryder and Austyn; mother, Olive; brothers, Larry (Lynn), Jack (Keith) and Donald (Pat); sister, Julie (Jeremy) Waschek; stepmother, Lou; mother-in-law, Norma Maristuen; brother-in-law, Jon (Pat) Maristuen; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Chester.

Visitation for Dan will be Friday, April 22, 2011, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 5:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral will be Saturday, April 23, 2011, at 2 PM, in Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, Fargo. Burial will be in Northwood Cemetery, Northwood.
