Darlene Elaine (Root) Hallstrom, age 83 passed away June 17, 2015 in Fargo, North Dakota after a long courageous battle with lung cancer.
Darlene was born at home on Dec. 31, 1931 to Edgar and Hilma Horien in Holt, MN. She attended Thief River Falls High School and worked as a waitress where she met Clifford Root. They married on June 18, 1950 and moved to Moorhead, MN where they raised three children.
They enjoyed spending summer week-ends at Tamarac Lake where she loved spending time with her family and friends. Darlene was a member of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, Eagles Auxiliary and an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church. She loved being a mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
Darlene is survived by three children, Vicki (Brad) Holm, Fargo; Teri (Jeff) Wells, Forest City, NC and Michael (Christy) Root, Hermosa Beach, CA; grandchildren, Lindsay(Brandon) Topp and Kaitlyn (Jace) Foss; great-grandson, Ryker Topp; brothers, Emery (Millie) Horien and Marc (Shirley) Horien; Brother-in-law, Bob Skoglund; several nephews; and special friend John Fischer. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister Arlene Skoglund.
Special thanks to Elim Rehab and Care Center, Hospice of the Red River Valley, and her many doctors and nurses that helped her fight her cancer battle. Memorials are preferred to cancer research.
A memorial service will held on Tuesday, June 23, 2015, at 1:30 PM in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead, MN.
