Darris R. Long

Darris Rudean Long, 95, passed away January 26, 2022, at his home in Apache Junction, AZ.

Darris Rudean Long was born December 3, 1926, to Orville and Vina Long in Clarkfield, MN. Darris completed eight grades of education in Clarkfield and in 1944, enlisted in the U.S. Navy being honorably discharged in 1946. He then returned to farm near Clarkfield.

Darris was united in marriage to Lila Harrier in Clarkfield on May 22, 1947. Shortly after, he began working for Boyd Long. He soon landed an over the road trucking job with Janesville Auto Transport and continued with the same company, retiring after 38 years. Upon his retirement Darris began spending summers at his Lee Lake cabin and winters in Arizona.

Lila’s untimely death in August of 1995 changed his life abruptly. Eventually, he resumed his recreation and travels with close friend, Arlene White. They enjoyed many seasons at the “Resort” in Apache Junction, playing tennis and getting together with friends. On Thanksgiving Day 2017, life changed again when he had a stroke. Sadly, this ended his tennis playing, but Darris continued to enjoy life and getting together with friends and family.

He will be greatly missed by all.

Darris is survived by his special friend, Arlene White, Apache Junction, AZ; brother, Dennis (Gayle) Long, Canby, MN; children, Ronny (Luella) Long, Apache Junction, Ronna Gilbertson (Calvin Myers), Parshall, ND, and Ryan Long (Kelly), Apache Junction;. seven grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews also survive.

Darris was preceded in death by his parents, Orville and Vina; wife, Lila; daughter, RaNae; son, Randy; son-in-law, Arlen Gilbertson; and siblings, Orvella, Wanda, Bonnie, Buster, and Beverly.

A Memorial Service for Darris will be 11:00 AM, Saturday, May 21, 2022, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead.
