Daryl O. Emery

Daryl O. Emery, 83, of Moorhead, MN, passed away Friday, March 15, 2024, in Sanford West Campus, Fargo, ND.   

Daryl Otis Emery was born April 29, 1940, the son of Merle C. and Edna M. (Binford) Emery, in Fargo, ND.  He was raised in Moorhead and graduated from Moorhead High School.   During his high school years Daryl embarked on an excavating career alongside his father at Emery Excavating.  

On December 4, 1965, Daryl was united in marriage Judith F. Bennett in Moorhead and to this union they welcomed their son, Clark.  The family established their home in Moorhead and Daryl continued to own and operate Emery Excavating.  Daryl and Judy were later divorced.

Daryl would then meet Jody Harmon and in 1995, they began their life together establishing a home in Moorhead.  After many wonderful years of companionship, Daryl and Jody were officially married on August 29, 2016.  Daryl continued working in excavating until 1982 when he started a new career in real estate retiring in 2006.

A dedicated and passionate gardener, Daryl found great joy tending to his numerous flower gardens with care and precision. His love for the outdoors was evident and during his younger years he enjoyed hunting and was an enthusiastic gun collector. Additionally, he had a deep passion for old cars and at one time was a proud owner of his customized and cherished 1958 Ford Ranchero.  A very proud moment for Daryl was when his Ranchero was featured in Hot Rod Magazine.  Another hobby that Daryl enjoyed was genealogy.  

Daryl will be missed by his wife, Jody; his kids, Clark (Sue) Emery, Moorhead; Wendy Harmon, Jacksonville, FL, and Travis (Christina) Harmon, Fargo; grandchildren, Hannah (Riley) Larson, Hayden (Marranda) Emery, and Kate, EllaMae, Adelina, Lilyann, and Grayson Harmon; great-grandchildren, Vida and Grace Larson, and Wesley Otis Emery; sisters, Sharon (Clyde) Swenson, Marilyn (Gordon) Eid and Janice Marsten; nieces and nephews also survive.   

He was preceded in death by his parents.  

To Celebrate Daryl’s Life a Gather of Family and Friends will be from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM, Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead.
