David M. Sliper

David M. Sliper was born August 6, 1939, in Fargo, ND. He grew up in the Cummings, ND, area. He graduated from Mayville (ND) High School in the late 1950s. After graduation he farmed the family farm near Cummings.
On June 29, 1961, David married Norma Smith. They farmed near Cummings and later farmed near Buxton, ND. They also owned and operated "Fertile Acres" Greenhouse. In 1975, David became a sales representative for Beta Seed Company.
In 1981, the family moved to Fargo and later to Moorhead, MN. He served the Red River Valley until he retired in 1998. He loved his farmers and looked forward to working with each one. He had a phenomenal memory for numbers and math. At one time he had each of his sugar beet farmer's phone numbers committed to memory, as well and the variety of seed each one grew. He was committed to his farmers. He loved to talk about the old times when his grandfather, Martin Sliper, was still farming with him. His last few sentences were about his grandfather and farming.
David enjoyed traveling. He and Norma enjoyed many trips with other Beta Seed salesmen. He also traveled across the US from coast to coast. He loved to visit family and get together with friends. Photography was a hobby of his for several years. He loved the challenge.
David loved to meet people and rarely ever met anyone he couldn't pick up an immediate conversation with. He appreciated good humor and loved to tell stories.
The last sixteen months he was in and out of the hospital and nursing homes. He had a long battle with cancer and put up a strong fight right up to the end. David died Tuesday, Jan. 31, 2006, at MeritCare Hospital in Fargo, at the age of 66.
David is survived by his wife, Norma, Moorhead; a daughter, Cindee (Duane) Krieger, Hawley, MN; a son, Timothy; and a grandson, Joshua Krieger. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence and Dorothy Sliper.
Visitation: Friday, one hour prior to the funeral, at the church.
Funeral Service: Friday, Feb. 3, 2006, at 10 AM in The Lutheran Church of Christ the King, Moorhead.
Burial: Norway Lutheran Church Cemetery, Hillsboro, ND.
