Dean Hoverson, age 77, of Sutton, ND, went to Heaven on Dec. 3, 2024, while his devoted wife Gwen was at his side. Dean suffered from Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare brain disease.
Dean was born in Grand Forks, ND, and grew up on a farm near Sutton, ND. He graduated from Glenfield-Sutton High School and the University of North Dakota with a degree in Accounting. Dean and Gwen married in 1969 and soon left North Dakota. Dean served in the U.S. Air Force in Texas and California before returning to the Sutton area with his wife and three daughters where he farmed for over 40 years.
Dean was a loving, patient, and committed husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle, and friend. He had a generous heart and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He could strike up a conversation with anyone and negotiate a bargain with the best. Dean was extremely handy and known for his ability to fix anything. He loved his family, technology, Ford Mustangs, playing games (pinochle, solitaire, puzzles and Rummikub were favorites), and eating fast. Outnumbered by females in the house, Dean was known for curling hair, repairing broken “junk” and rescuing his wife and daughters from the mischief they got into.
Dean’s grin and the twinkle in his eye let you know he was about to give you a big hug, win the game, drive the Mustang faster, or reveal a solution to a project or invention he was working on. We will no longer have to ask, “Where is Dean?” He is in Heaven.
Dean is survived by his wife Gwen; daughters Amy Schultz (Scott), Lisa Kukulya (John), and Michelle Briehler (Michael); grandchildren Caleb, Isaac, Jack, Paige, Kole and Cooper; siblings Allen, Ruth, and Randy; and many nephews and nieces. Dean was preceded in death by his parents Allen and Edith, sister Cheryl Mae and twin brother David.
A celebration of life will be held in the spring of 2025.
