Delores Eiler

October 22, 1925 — May 31, 2009

Delores (Wagner) Eiler of Fargo, ND, passed away surrounded by family on Sunday, May 31st, 2009 in Detroit Lakes, MN.


Delores was born in Huron, SD on October 22, 1925, to Leo and Gener Wagner. Growing up, she spent her summers with her grandmother, Della Peterson, in Huron. Many wonderful memories and a very close bond were formed between the two. During her school years, she attended St Joseph's Catholic School, Moorhead State Campus School and Interstate Business College. Following graduation, she worked for Herbst Department Store.


Delores met her husband-to-be, Roman Harold Eiler, through a mutual friend during World War II. They were married at St Joseph's Catholic Church on February 20th, 1946. They settled down in Fargo to start their family. Delores and Roman were blessed with 7 children ~ 5 daughters and 2 sons. Delores and Roman were married for 55 years before Roman's passing in 2001.


Delores was well known throughout the years for her beautiful cakes she made for her family. It became a home-based business for many years. St Mary's Cathedral was an important part of Delores' life. She worked the church rummage sales, volunteered in the rectory, and was a Eucharistic Minister. She volunteered not only at church but at the Roger Maris Cancer Center providing transportation to those in need. Delores was a member of Catholic Daughters and a life long member of TOPS, winning the honor of TOPS Queen for the state of North Dakota in 1966.


Delores enjoyed traveling with family and friends to Europe and Hawaii. She also spent time traveling on the East and West coasts and down South.


Delores' family was very important to her and the time spent with them was cherished. She loved the summers spent on Jewett Lake with her family. These days held many loving and happy memories. Delores was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandch
Delores lived a long and full life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends including the staff and residents at the Cottage, part of Emmanuel Living Center in Detroit Lakes. We are very grateful to the staff for being so kind and helpful and
Delores will be lovingly remembered by her seven children, Sherry (Gene) Erbes, Barney, ND; Gayle (Perry) Cummings, Fargo; Kathie (Rick) Burchill, Cedar, MN; John (Karen), Fargo; Nancy (Paul) Collins, Detroit Lakes; Paul ( Julie), Fargo; and Julie Halv
Delores was preceded in death by her husband, Roman Eiler; grandson, Brian Erbes; granddaughter, Paige Collins; and her parents, Leo and Gener Wagner.




Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. The Funeral Mass will be on Thursday, June 4, 2009 at 2 PM at St. Mary's Cathedral, Fargo, with Burial in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery.
