Deloris H. Thompson, 80, Moorhead MN, passed away peacefully, Thursday, April 25, 2024, in her home, under the care of hospice.
Deloris Handel was born on October 5, 1943, in Streeter, ND, to Edward and Bertha (Veil) Handel, the 5th of 9 children. She grew up on a farm helping her family with daily chores, attending, and graduating high school in 1961. She worked at Anne Carlsen Center in Jamestown, ND, before moving to Moorhead.
Deloris was united in marriage to William Thompson on July 11, 1970, and together they made their home in Moorhead. They welcomed their son, Daniel William on May 3, 1973, and daughter, Deborah Deloris on September 6, 1975.
Deloris worked in the nursery at St. Ansgard, in Moorhead for a few years. She started work as a lunch lady at St. Francis de Sales Catholic School in Moorhead, before working as a CNA at Eventide Moorhead Nursing Home for many years. Up until her retirement, she was working at Moorhead Manor Retirement Home.
Deloris loved caring for others, reading, country music, helping around the kitchen and watching Law & Order SVU or Hallmark movies. Most of all, she loved spending time with family and many friends. She was blessed with four beautiful grandchildren. She had a heart of gold and will be missed dearly.
Deloris is survived by her son, Daniel (Shannon) Thompson, Fargo, ND; daughter, Deborah (Brian) Kettleson, Mapleton, ND; four grandchildren, Tyler, Hayden, Sydney and Austynn; brothers, Clarence Handel, Fairburn, SD, Elroy (Karen) Handel, Esmond, ND; sisters, Minnie Reck, Andover, MN, Carol (Dave) Busta, Chetek, WI, Verletta Weigel, Henderson, NV, Linda (Robert) Villalobos, Reseda, CA; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Bertha Handel; sister, Violet Ova; and brother, Lenhard Handel.
The celebration of life will be held privately with the family at a later date. The family would like to thank Ethos Hospice for the compassionate care they provided Deloris in her final days. In lieu of flowers, family would like to request a donation to the Alzheimer’s Association, in honor of Deloris.
