Dennis M. Whitman, 65, of Waterville, MN, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, October 28, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, MN.
Dennis Michael Whitman was born, December 1, 1946, in Aneta, ND, the son of Delos and Mildred (Kulseth) Whitman. He was raised there and graduated from Aneta High School in 1964. He then attended the North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND, before entering the U.S Army in 1966.
On October 17, 1970, he was united in marriage to Denise Gigler in Aneta. They made their home in Valley City, ND, where he attended Valley City State University, graduating in 1978. Upon graduation the couple moved to Grand Forks, ND, where he worked as a police officer at the University of North Dakota. After leaving Grand Forks, Dennis worked in various places as a police officer, deputy sheriff and police chief. In 2002, they moved to Moorhead and recently moved to Waterville in August of 2012.
Dennis enjoyed hunting and fishing with his son. One of his greatest joys was spending time with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his wife, Denise; son, Dennis Whitman, II; daughter, Gretchen (Tony) Enger; two granddaughters that he adored, Bella and Lexi Enger; sister, Myrna (Duane) Serr; brother, Todd (Cheryl) Whitman; one nephew; three nieces; and a good friend, Rod Ambuehl.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation: One hour prior to the service.
Funeral Service: Saturday, November 3, 2012, at 2:00 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
