Dianna and Oscar's Celebration of Life will be Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 11am in Faith United Methodist Church, Fargo. Family and friends will gather one hour prior at the church. Following the service, please join the family for a time of lunch and fellowship. Interment will be in the Spring at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo.
Dianna L. Ostern, 86, Fargo, ND, died Monday, January 13, 2025, in Essentia Health, Fargo surrounded by her family.
Dianna Lydia Bettenhausen was born March 8, 1938, in Wishek, ND, to Walter and Lydia (Gall) Bettenhausen. She grew up on the family farm with five other siblings and graduated from Wishek High School in 1956. Following high school, Dianna attended St. Lukes School of Nursing.
After earning her LPN degree, Dianna started her nursing career at the VA Hospital. Her entire working career was in Fargo, which included: VA, NDSU, St. Lukes Hospital, Fargo Cass Public Health and Dakota Clinic.
On August 27, 1961, Dianna was united in marriage to Eskild Ostern in Wishek, ND. They welcomed a son, Mark in 1962 and daughter, Dawn in 1965. They raised their family in north Fargo.
Dianna retired from nursing in 1996. She enjoyed going on her Pink Bus Tours with friends and was part of the Red Hat Ladies. She loved going out for lunch with her girlfriends when possible. Dianna enjoyed were tending her flower gardens. Her home was adorned with large flowerpots of red geraniums and bird feeders in the back yard. She also enjoyed keeping the flower beds at church looking their best. During retirement, Dianna worked as a school nurse for Fargo Public Schools.
Most importantly, Dianna and Oscar loved spending time with family, especially when they became grandparents. They were always present for their grandchildren and spent many cold hours in hockey arenas, attending music events, along with football and baseball games and in recent years, Roller Derby. They took immense pride in being the best “taxi” service for their grandchildren, and always made sure a snack was prepared upon pick up or drop off. They loved hosting the Ostern family at the family farm in Great Bend during Thanksgiving.
Dianna and Oscar spent their summers on Long Lake and later Rose Lake. They made many lake friends throughout the years and loved the slow pontoon rides; and entertaining family, making countless memories in the process. Dianna and Oscar absolutely loved Polka music and enjoyed listening and watching Lawrence Welk. They were active long time members of Edgewood United Methodist Church.
A faithful wife, mother, and grandmother, Dianna was welcomed into Heaven three days after her husband, Oscar passed.
They are survived by their children, son, Mark and his wife Connie Ostern, daughter, Dawn and her husband Doug Long; their amazing grandchildren, Matthew Long, Andrew Long and his wife Lori Boucher, Jessi and her husband Michael Motschenbacher, Maddie and her husband Seth Hanson, and Mason Ostern; two sisters, Virginia Miller, and Sylvia and her husband Sam Besser; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Dianna is preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Oscar; and siblings, Wesley, Harvey and Kenneth.
