Dirk H. Brevik, 65, Fargo, ND, died Monday, March 21, 2022, at his residence, of natural causes.
Dirk was born September 30, 1956, in Grand Forks, ND, and raised in Larimore, ND. He was the son of Harvey C. Brevik and Evelyn M. (Froslie) Brevik. He graduated from Larimore High School in 1974.
Dirk was a conversationalist. Dirk was well-read and kept abreast with the news and historical events. His education in communication and broadcasting at Dickinson State college was perfect for his adult life. While in college, he was a disc jockey and just like “Wolfman Jack,” he liked keeping everyone clued-up during the late-night hours.
He left college and went on to work on “the rigs” (oil) during the 1970s and 1980s. He worked on the platforms, threw chain, and worked in “the crow’s nest.” He returned to Larimore and worked locally at many construction jobs. When not working, Dirk enjoyed hunting, snow skiing, outdoor adventures and traveling.
His next move was to Fargo. He continued working physical jobs. However, he was most proud of his volunteer work at Bethany Homes, Fargo, for which he received community recognition. He completed nursing assistant education. He actively, and with great pride, took care of the dogs and the birds at the home until their passing. He visited with residents. He did painting and repair work at the home, too. This was a home away from home for him. He loved being part of the downtown community. He relished the entertainment scene. Then came Covid. The isolation was devastating for him, as it has been for many. His free spirit was sequestered.
He is survived by his sisters, Denise (Wayne) Carlson, Mandan, ND, and Anita Farrell, Grand Forks, ND; brother-in-law, David Farrell, Larimore; nieces and nephews, Lisa (Dustin) Jackson, Bryant (Brooke) Carlson, Brandi (Corey) Enger, Tracey (David) Faltersack, Shawna Brevik, and Casey Brevik; and many great nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Jon Brevik; his paternal grandparents, Henry and Cora Brevik; and maternal grandparents, Adolf and Ida Froslie.
Visitation for Dirk will begin at 9 AM, with a Celebration of Life service at 10 AM, Saturday, April 2, 2022, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
