Dixie Jackson

December 17, 1926 — February 13, 2017

Dixie Jackson, age 90, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully on Monday, February 13, 2017, at Sanford Medical Center in Fargo, ND.

Dixie Audrey Brendemuhl, daughter of Christian and Agnes (Krabbenhoft) Brendemuhl, was born in Sabin, MN on December 17, 1926. She grew up in Sabin and graduated high school from the Moorhead Teacher's College Campus School.

On March 26, 1947, without funds and completely in love, Dixie and Ronald A. Jackson eloped, living separately until their parents became aware of their marriage. As newlyweds, they lived in Kindred and Fargo, before making their home in Moorhead where they raised their family. Prior to having children, Dixie thoroughly enjoyed working at St. Luke's, downtown Fargo; and years later, loved her work at the Trinity Lutheran Church Day Care Center. She often followed the lives of these children from when they were in her care at Trinity, to their parenthood and having children of their own.

Her caregiving knew no boundaries, portrayed through her professions as well as her personal life. Those who were fortunate to have known Dixie saw this exemplified every day through her ever-present kindness and light.

Dixie also found happiness by spending time with family: camping throughout Minnesota during the summers, family road trips to National Parks, and later in life, spending time with Ron (and the grandkids) at their lake-place, Spruce Hill, Park Rapids, MN.

Dixie was an enthusiastic member at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd. She will be remembered for working her "bread and butter station" at Wednesday Night Suppers, bringing icebox cookies each month to her newsletter assembly meetings, and greeting, chatting, and hugging the Sunday Worshipers, aged 3 - 93.

Dixie is survived by her son, William "Bill" (Camille) Jackson, Broomfield, CO; and two grandchildren, Chris (Amman, Jordan and Berlin, Germany) and Nina (Denver, CO). She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron, who died in 2008; her son, Dr. Paul, and daughter-in-law, Nga Jackson; sisters, Fern Wilson and Florence North; and brother, Leland "Bud" Brendemuhl.
Should friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to Eventide Linden Tree Circle, Moorhead, MN, and flowers may be ordered and coordinated through Country Greenery, Moorhead.

Visitation for Dixie will be Monday, February 20, 2017, 2 PM until 3 PM, followed by her funeral service at 3 PM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead. Burial will follow funeral service at Prairie Home Cemetery, Moorhead (*Weather permitting).
