Dona M. Andvik

Dona M. Andvik died Sunday, September 18, 2022, at The Estates (formerly Farmstead Estates), Moorhead, MN. She was 93 years young.


Dona was born March 25, 1929, in Hutchinson, MN, to Clarence and Grace (Waters) Johnson. She grew up in Moorhead, and graduated from Moorhead High School in 1947.


Dona was united in marriage to Garfield Andvik on October 28, 1947, at First Congregational Church in Moorhead. They celebrated 72 years of marriage, before Garfield passed away in 2020. They will celebrate 75 years of marriage in heaven.


Dona and Garfield were members of Comstock Lutheran Church, where Dona was currently active in the Lydia Circle and quilters activities. Dona and Garfield lived for 60 years on their farmstead before moving into Moorhead in 2007. Together they traveled to all 50 states.


Dona was active in Clay County Extension Homemakers, supported her kids in the Sabin Work and Win 4-H Club and their Clay County 4-H activities. She later enjoyed league bowling in both Moorhead and Fargo. Golfing was another passion, playing in the Village Green Women’s League. She continued to golf well into her 80’s. Always wanting to keep active, she was one of the exercise group leaders at Farmstead Estates at 93, and continued to play cards every night with other residents.


Together Dona and Garfield raised five children. She was extremely proud of their accomplishments. She was also very proud of all of her grandchildren and the path they have taken in their lives.


Dona is survived her five children, Jennifer (Vic) Haugrud, Pelican Rapids, MN, Michael (Debra) Andvik, Fergus Falls, MN, Jeffrey (Linda) Andvik, Moorhead, Penny (Ira) Dale, Moorhead, and Kevin (Toni) Andvik, Chanhassen, MN; 13 grandchildren: Chris (Rhea) Haugrud, Kerry (Shari) Haugrud, Amy (Andrew) McAllister, Heidi Andvik (Max Milz), Amanda (Tim) Weller, Brady (Jennifer) Andvik, Molly (Shawn) Kamrath, Marc (Danielle) Andvik, Ryan (Andrea Teal) Andvik, Ira Dale IV (Katie Zimny), Kimberly (Erik) Vosseteig, Erienne (Brett) Nelson, and Gabrielle Andvik; 30 great-grandchildren, Lauren, Garrett and Faith Haugrud, Victoria and Devyn Haugrud, Molly Jo and Morgan McAllister, Rowan and Kai Weller, Callahan and Gavin Andvik, Bryce and Collin Kamrath, Kelsey and Lukas Andvik, Hattie, Woodrow, Redding, Winnie, and Leni Andvik, Ira V and Evelyn Dale, Henrik, Penelope and Boden Vosseteig, and Henrik and Soren Nelson; brother, David Johnson; sister-in-law, Delores Johnson; and sister-in-law, Olive Andvik.


She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Grace Johnson; brother, Clarence Darrell “Bud” Johnson; sisters, Geraldine (Johnson) George, Jean (Johnson, Fisher) Nelson; and great-grandchildren, Gabriel and Grace Haugrud.


The family would like to extend their appreciation to Hospice of the Red River Valley and Helping Hands Care. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorials be made to the Comstock Lutheran Church, Hospice of the Red River Valley, or Hope Blooms.


Visitation will be from 5 – 7 PM, with a prayer service at 6:30 PM, Thursday, September 22, 2022, at Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. Her Celebration of Life service will be at 11AM, Friday, September 23, 2022, in Comstock Lutheran Church, Comstock. Burial will take place in East Comstock Lutheran Cemetery.
