Donald "Bart" G. Bartness, 74, Dilworth, MN, died Saturday, June 10, 2006, in Villa Maria, Fargo, ND.
Donald Gene Bartness was born July 24, 1931, in Minneapolis, MN, to Tilman and Alma (Dahlen) Bartness. He was raised in Hitterdal, MN, and Moorhead, MN. The family moved to Dilworth where he graduated from high school in 1949.
"Bart" as he was known all his life, entered the US Navy on November 13, 1951 and served for two years. Following his discharge, he returned to Dilworth. Bart was married to Geri Lewis on June 17, 1953, in Charleston, SC, and they made their home in Dilworth.
Bart worked for the Northern Pacific Rail Way for forty-six years, having retired in 1994 as a chief crew clerk. He remained in Dilworth but enjoyed the summer months at Big Pine Lake, near Perham, MN.
Bart is survived by his wife, Geri, Dilworth; a daughter, Debi (Gary) Zahalka, Dilworth; two sons, Danny (Jana), and David (Lisa), both Glyndon, MN; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-mother, Beverly "Bunny" Bartness, Dilworth; four brothers, Roger (Pat), Williston, ND, Terry (Margo), Park Rapids, MN, Larry (Anna), Panama City, FL, and Gary, Lake Jackson, TX; and a sister, Mary Kay (Jerome) Reimche, Moorhead.
Visitation: Tuesday, June 13, 2006; from 5 - 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral: Wednesday, June 14, 2006, at 1 PM, in Dilworth Lutheran Church, Dilworth.
Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Moorhead.
