Donald Stephen Mestery, M.D., 63, Moorhead, MN, died peacefully on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at Sanford Health, with his family by his side.
Don was born May 5, 1949, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, to Stephen and Dorothy (Schepp) Mestery. On June 1, 1974, Don married June McLaughlin, at Fort Garry, Manitoba.
Don graduated from The University of Manitoba Medical School, Winnipeg, in 1977. Don was an Internal Medicine Physician. He had a warm, calming touch as a physician. His patients would come to his office and encounter a kind spirit, empathetic ear or cheerful sense of humor. Over his career, Don practiced at Falls Clinic, Thief River Falls, MN; Valley Medical, Grand Forks, ND; Austin Medical Clinic, Austin, MN; and Dakota Clinic, Fargo, ND.
When not doting on his family, especially his four grandchildren, Don enjoyed nothing more than weekend adventures with family and friends camping at Potato Lake. He loved telling stories around the campfires and making breakfast over an open fire. Don was an avid handyman always looking for the next home project. Don showed everyone what true contentment here on earth meant by enjoying the simple things in life.
Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Stephen and Dorothy; and a grandson, Caden Mestery.
Donald is survived by his wife, June Mestery, Moorhead; two sons, Kyle (Sue) Mestery, Woodbury, MN, and Brent (Stephanie) Mestery, Moorhead; two daughters, Megan Mestery and Kristen (Aaron) Fjeld, both Moorhead; four grandchildren, Halle, Tyler, Gavin and Peyton, all at home; sister, Brenda Parks, Calgary, Alberta; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be a gathering of friends Thursday, July 5, 2012, from 6 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Atonement Lutheran Church, Fargo. A Memorial service will be Friday, July 6, 2012, at 11 AM, in Atonement Lutheran Church.
Inurnment will be in Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
