Donald W. Bjornstad, 90, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, December 11, 2011, in his home in Moorhead.
Donald William Bjornstad was born April 7, 1921, in Canby, MN, to Martin and Elma (Berendt) Bjornstad. The family moved to Marietta, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1939. Donald then joined the Civil Conservation Corp. and served in the U.S. Army Air Force from 1942 to 1945.
Upon his discharge, Donald settled in Montevideo, MN, where he owned a decorating store. While living there, he was active in the Junior Chamber of Commerce, the Legion, and he played in the VFW Drum and Bugle Corps.
On December 29, 1948, Donald married Doris Anderson in Hazel Run, MN. In 1960, the family moved to Moorhead, where Donald was a co-owner of Finest Men's Wear.
Donald enjoyed being involved in Greater Moorhead Days. In later years, he was involved in remodeling and painting projects. Donald was a long-time Legion member and enjoyed his time with the "Helping Hands" at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd.
Donald is survived by his wife, Doris, Moorhead; a daughter, Dawn Bjornstad, Moorhead; two sons, Dann (Colleen) Bjornstad, Moorhead, and Robert (Deb) Bjornstad, St. Cloud, MN; four grandchildren, Tom, Nick, Derek and Ashley Bjornstad; and a sister, Velma
The family is especially appreciative of the care Donald received at the VA Hospital and "The Club" at the Villa Maria where he spent two days a week.
Memorial Service: Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11 AM at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead with Visitation one hour prior to the service at the church.
