Donald Wangrud

Donald Wangrud, 87, of Fargo, ND, peacefully passed away on Wednesady, April 10, 2024, in St. Catherine South, Fargo, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Donald was born on September 14, 1936, in Moorhead, MN, to Floyd and Mary (Rishel) Wangrud. He spent his formative years in Fargo and graduated from Central High School in 1954. Donald then dedicated nine years of service to his country in the Navy.

On May 4, 1963, Donald married the love of his life, Meredith Ann Holm, in Fargo. Together they built a beautiful life raising three sons. Don and Meredith owned and operated Pinky’s Pizza until 1995, and in 1989, Don started working for Monarch Photo as well. He worked there until retiring in 2001.  Don took a retirement job at Walmart where he worked as a greeter for 27 years.

Donald had a strong work ethic but found true joy in spending time with loved ones. He adored his family and treasured moments with his grandson. His lake cabin on Tamarac Lake held a special place in his heart, as did his travels to Mexico in later years.

Don is survived by his sons, Michael, of West Fargo, ND, Steven (Maria) of Kent, WA, and Bill (Lisa) of Fargo; grandson, Ty Wangrud; sister, Pauline Olson, of Hallock, MN; aunt, Romayne Rishel; brother-in-law, Paul Schultz; and his close friend, Diane McLain.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Meredith; his parents; and sister, Mary Jean Schultz.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be made to the Roger Maris Cancer Center or Valley Senior Services. 

Don’s funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at 11 AM, with a visitation one hour prior, in Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo. The burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Fargo.
