Donna Mae Johnson

Donna Mae Johnson was born August 4, 1941, in Sharon, ND, to Johnny and Mayme (Hill) Gunderson.  She was raised in Mahnomen where she graduated from high school.

Donna married Sheldon “Butch” Johnson and they made their home in Twin Valley, MN.  Following their divorce, Donna moved the family to Ellendale, ND.  She worked for Cenex as a bookkeeper and accountant in both Twin Valley and Ellendale. 

The family moved to Aberdeen, SD, where she worked for Siebrecht’s Florist.  In 2017, she moved back to Mahnomen, where Donna remained until entering Eventide on Eighth, Moorhead, MN, in September of 2023.  It was there she passed away, under hospice care, on Thursday, October 26, 2023, at eighty-two years of age. 

Donna was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ellendale and Zion Lutheran Church in Twin Valley.  She was a proud member of AA for over forty years.  Donna was very involved in her bowling leagues, and she enjoyed a good-spirited game of cards, especially poker, at the AA meetings. 

Donna is survived by her son, Mitchell (JoAnn Hoekstra), Twin Valley;  five grandchildren, Jeremy, Chad, Brittany, Brooke (Brody) and Colton;  eight great-grandchildren, Laila, Aiden, Christian, Adrian, Gabriel, Jax, Cora, and Izac; and brothers, Ray (Barb), Stanley and Dale (Merry) Gunderson.

She was preceded in death by her son, Jeff; brother, James Gunderson; sister, Sharon Johnson; and a sister-in-law, Bev Gunderson (Stanley’s wife.)
