Doris L. Mjolsness

January 16, 1929 — January 17, 2018

Doris L. Mjolsness, 89, Rochert, MN, formerly of Perley, MN, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2018, at Oak Crossing, Detroit Lakes, MN.
Doris Lorraine Jacobson, the daughter of William and Margaret (Reierson) Jacobson, was born in Perley, on Jan. 16, 1929. She grew up in the Perley area where she attended school, graduated from Hendrum (MN) High School and attended Moorhead (MN) State College.
On June 20, 1948, Doris married Clayton Mjolsness at Kirkebo Lutheran Church, Perley. They lived in the Perley area, where they farmed. Doris was the definition of farmwife who provided invaluable help on the farm, performing a wide variety of farm duties, all while taking care of the family.
Doris taught at a country school near Gardner, ND, and worked at American Crystal Sugar offices during the 1950 through 1955 campaigns. She volunteered at St. Ansgar Hospital, was involved with Lutheran Evangelistic Movement for 10 years, was the co-founder of the Perley Campfire Girls and was involved with the Billy Graham Crusade Choirs in the 1970s.
The family moved to Fargo, ND in 1976 then in 1981 Doris and Clayton moved to Florida, where they lived for 10 years. During that time Doris enjoyed working in a sewing machine and fabric store. In 1991, the couple moved to their lake home near Rochert. In 2012, Doris became a resident of Oak Crossing in Detroit Lakes.
Doris was a gifted and talented artist, where she applied her creativity to painting, gardening, knitting, crafting and sewing. She was a passionate genealogist, taking classes on the subject, and traveling to Norway to discover and explore her family roots. Doris also followed politics and never missed a chance to vote and let her thoughts be known to state and national politicians with letters and phone calls.
She was an excellent cook who made great cookies, pies and Norwegian delicacies.
Above all, it was her faith in Jesus Christ that defined her. She served her Lord by teaching Sunday School, VBS, Wednesday release time and led numerous Bible studies. Doris was committed to praying for her loved ones and sharing her faith with her family and others.
Doris is survived by her husband, Clayton, Rochert; four children, Christine (Charles) Canning, Fargo, David (Patricia) Mjolsness, LeClaire, IA, Chuck (Laura) Mjolsness, Gainesville, GA, and Kathryn (Scott) Kallis, Detroit Lakes; six grandchildren, Benjamin (Chelie) Canning, Andrea Canning, Lexis (Bear) Krieg, Coltyn (Madison) Cooley, Courtney (Dustin) Sailer, and Emily (Andrew) Stock; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia Canning, Alexander Canning, and Josie Krieg.
