Doris M. Brekke

Doris Maxine Bartholomay was born March 16, 1918, to Frank and Blanche (Briscoe) Bartholomay, in Leonard, ND. She was raised in the Leonard area where she attended school. Doris worked alongside her father in the restaurant business for many years. They also worked at the popular Don's Hamburger Shop on 8th Street in Fargo, ND.

Doris married Elmo Larson and they owned and operated businesses in Borup, MN, and West Fargo, ND. She and Elmo had four children. He died in 1962. Doris married Edward Brekke in 1967 and they resided in Dilworth, MN. She and Ed spent many summers at their lake home on West McDonald. They enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout northern Minnesota and Canada. Doris moved to Fargo after Edwards death in 1987.

Doris enjoyed playing cards, and working crossword and jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Fargo Eagle's Auxiliary for many years where she was honored with the Mrs. Eagle award. Doris especially enjoyed those times spent with her family. She often accompanied family members on trips and loved the family gatherings at her daughter's and son's lake homes.

Doris died Thursday, August 4, 2016, in Bethany on 42nd, Cottonwood Court, Fargo, at ninety-eight years of age.

Doris is survived by one son, Bruce (Laura) Larson, Harwood, ND; three daughters, Eloise (Calvin) Haglund, Barbara (Howard) Gensler, and Kathleen (Tom) Kuppich, all of Fargo; twelve grandchildren, Nancy Haglund Haverland, Thomas Haglund, Cathy Gensler Selberg, Cristy Gensler Graalum, Michelle Kuppich Topor, Thomas Kuppich, Matthew Kuppich, Tracey Ramirez, Angela Larson Matthys, Nicholas Larson, Jeffrey Larson, and Jeremy Larson; twenty-two great-grandchildren, Megan (Josh Hanson) Haverland, Lindsey Haverland, Jared Haverland, John Haverland, Andrew Haglund, Elaina Haglund, Nathan Haglund, Benjamin Selberg, Cole Selberg, Jackson Graalum, Michael Graalum, Joshua Topor, Madisen Kuppich, Jack Kuppich, Tate Kuppich, Christian Ramirez, Olivia Matthys, Josie Matthys, Cody Matthys, North Larson, Tucker Larson, and Tennessee Larson; one stepdaughter; two stepgrandchildren; two sisters, Lois Nelson and Joanne Groth, both of Fargo; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husbands, Doris was preceded in death by her two sisters, Phyllis Bartholomay and Eileen Rustad; two brothers, Eugene and Roger Bartholomay; and a stepson, James Brekke.

The family wishes to thank both the Good Samaritan Society and Bethany on 42nd, both Fargo, for the excellent care of Doris.

Visitation will begin at 9 AM, followed by a funeral at 10 AM, Monday, August 15, 2016, at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Fargo.

Burial will take place in Moorhead Memorial Gardens, Moorhead, MN.
