Dorothy Balzum Stock

Dorothy H. Balzum Stock, age 79, of Fargo, ND, formerly of Moorhead, MN, died Saturday, October 20, 2012, at Essentia Health, Fargo.
Dorothy Helen Kappes, the daughter of William and Rose (Platt) Kappes, was born September 5, 1933, in Borup, MN, where she grew up and received her education. On November 7, 1950, she was united in marriage to Arvid C. Balzum. Following their marriage, they lived in Ada, MN. In 1968, they moved to Moorhead, where Dorothy worked for 30 years as the church secretary in St. Joseph Catholic Church. Arvid died May 22, 1987. After his death, Dorothy continued to live in Moorhead.
On November 21, 1997, Dorothy married Dr. Donald Stock in Moorhead. They lived in Moorhead and in Fargo. Since March of 2012, Dorothy has been a resident of Rosewood on Broadway, Fargo.
Dorothy was a very active member of the church with an eternal sense of faith. Praying the rosary along with separate prayers to St. Joseph, St. Anthony and St. Jude were part of her daily routine. Dorothy had an unequivocal love for her family. She once said her family was her Novena and that all she ever wanted was to be a wife and a mother; two roles she mastered over a devotion filled lifetime.
Dorothy is survived by her husband, Donald, Moorhead, MN; eight children, Randy (Denise) Balzum, Moorhead, MN; Jeri (Carl) Melsness, Cheyenne, WY; Jeanne (Joseph) Schreiner, Wahpeton, ND; Connie Estenson, Phoenix, AZ; Timothy (Shannon) Balzum, Fargo, ND; Charles Balzum, West Fargo, ND; Patrice (Jim) Amick, Olathe, KS; and Dawn Pila, Fargo, ND; seven stepchildren, Cheryl (Jerry) Colwell, IL; Teri Netland, Minneapolis, MN; Patricia (John) Elias, White Bear Lake, MN; Paul (Jen) Stock, Page, ND; Tom (Cindy) Stock, Lee's Summit, MO; Curtis (Cheryl) Stock, Fargo, ND; and Kathleen (Terry) Thiel, Moorhead, MN; 31 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Arvid, nine brothers, and a sister.
Visitation: Monday, 5 PM to 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, October 23, 2012, at 10:30 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Graveside Service: Tuesday at 2 PM, Ada (MN) Municipal Cemetery.
