Dorothy "Dodi" Barnett

September 6, 1957 — November 16, 2010

More than four years after being diagnosed with Small cell lymphoma cancer, Dorothy 'Dodi' Lea Barnett, 53, died November 16, 2010, with her husband by her side in Pensacola, Florida. She lived her life with faith, love, energy, courage and determination. She believed and practiced that we are stronger than any problem encountered or disappointment life may bring.

She was born Sept. 6, 1957, in Olathe, Kansas to Shirley Trom and Paul Nowakowski. She graduated from high school in Moorhead, MN.

She worked for Minnesota State University Moorhead in Moorhead, Minnesota for 15 Years. She graduated Summa Cum Laude from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois, receiving her Bachelor's Degree in Management Information Systems. She worked for Caterpillar Inc. in Peoria, Illinois for the past 14 years focusing on Enterprise Business Warehouse Systems & Processes. She held a Six Sigma Green Belt certification.

She attended St. Andrew by the Sea Community Church in Gulf Shores, Alabama, and United Methodist in Macomb, Illinois. Her interests included spending time with family, reading, collecting stained glass houses and lighthouses, cross-stitch and sailing.



Survivors include: her husband, Dr. Jim Barnett; one son, Matthew Kjelland; three step-children and their spouses, Chad and Kari (Barnett) Peterson, Jared and Lisa (Barnett) Carrillo, Jay Barnett; Eleven grandchildren; parents, Shirley Trom and Paul Nowakowski; two brothers, Dan Nowakowski and Randy Nowakowski; Bailey her Bichon Friese; and several close friends and family members.
Trahan Family Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Funeral services will be held at St. Andrew by the Sea Community Church in Gulf Shores, AL on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. and also on Saturday, November 27, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. in Korsmo Funeral Chapel in Moorhead, MN.
The family would like to thank everyone for all the thoughts and prayers, calls and cards during Dodi's illness. A special thank you to Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg of Sacred Heart Medical Oncology Group and his staff, the Sacred Heart Radiation/Oncology Department, the Sacred Heart Infusion Center, the wonderful Sacred Heart nurses St. Catherines, Covenant Hospice, as well as the many other friends and 'family' from Sacred Heart who have provided tremendous support.
