Dorothy J. Hughes

Dorothy J. Hughes, 95, Moorhead, MN, passed away very peacefully on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, surrounded by her family, in Eventide on 8th, Moorhead.

Dorothy Jane Long was born on February 1, 1918, to Mary and Edward Long, in Moorhead. She attended Moorhead High School and, shortly thereafter, married Daniel Hughes on June 1, 1937. Dorothy stayed at home with her children for many years before working as a Lunch Lady at St. Joseph School, Moorhead. She always made sure you knew she never missed a day of work her whole time there.

Dorothy was involved in St. Joseph church bazaars, parish activities, and Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers for over 80 years.

Dorothy loved her children very much and enjoyed going to Dorothy Ann's for coffee, going out to eat with Daniel, travelling across the country to see Judy, having Kathie fix her hair, going on motorcycle rides with Jim, and having an occasional shot of whiskey with David. Dorothy especially enjoyed her daily visits from Dale to have coffee and an occasional nap.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Dorothy Ann Fick, Daniel Hughes, Judy (David) Clark, Kathie (Dale) Jenson, James (Becky) Hughes, and David (fiancée Jenny Tollefson) Hughes; grandchildren, Denisé (Steven) Ingberg, Debra Fick, Robert Fick, Ronald (Tami) Fick, Dawn (St. Clair Mellard) Fick, Danielle (Jeremey) Finseth, Roy (Ashley) Fick, Karen Daum, Steven (Nina) Clark, Robert (Nestor) Clark, Michael (Jason) Lohman, Leah-Rae Hendrickson, Rory Allan Hendrickson, Heather Lyn (Darren) Moen, Christopher Hughes, Sharon (Eric) Johnston, and Mason Hughes; and many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Daniel; son, Jerald; grandsons Todd and Lonnie Hendrickson, and Tyler Hughes; granddaughter, Faith Hendrickson; brother, Gerald Long; and sons-in-law, Ron Fick and Whitey Hendrickson.

Visitation: Tuesday, November 5, 2013, from 5 - 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead. Funeral Mass: Wednesday, November 6, 2013, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church.
