Dorothy Kihl, age 88, of Fargo, ND, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2007, at Rosewood on Broadway in Fargo, where she had been a resident since December of 2005.
Dorothy P. Schill, the daughter of Christian and Juliana (Hennen) Schill, was born in Moorhead, MN, on February 15, 1919. She grew up and received her education in Moorhead, including graduating from Moorhead High School and attending Moorhead State Teachers College, where she was a member of the Gamma Nu Sorority. Dorothy had also studied at the DePaul Music Conservatory in Chicago, IL.
On February 20, 1946, Dorothy married Tracy G. Kihl, in Moorhead, where they made their home. The family spent many happy days at their lake home on Pelican Lake, near Pelican Rapids. Dorothy was adventurous, and she water skied into her 60's.
Dorothy was also creative and enjoyed painting and dancing. She taught both tap and ballet dancing. Family was important to Dorothy, and she was a stay at home mom until her five children were older. She then worked at JC Penney's and Northwestern Bell.
In 1987, both she and Tracy retired, and they moved to live year around on Big Cormorant Lake, by Audubon, MN. Her loving husband, Tracy, died in May of 1998. After his death, Dorothy continued to live on the lake. She moved to Fargo, to live at the Waterford for six years, and then became a resident of Rosewood on Broadway.
Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by five children, Chris (Deb Drummond) Kihl, Moorhead, Tim Kihl, Moorhead, Jane (Bill) Kihl-Kippley, Dent, MN, Thomas Kihl, Kew Gardens, NY, and Barbara Kihl, Minneapolis, MN; and t
Visitation: Sunday from 4 - 8 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, and one hour before the funeral at the church.
Prayer Service: Sunday at 7 PM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel.
Funeral Mass: Monday, October 29, 2007, at 11 AM, in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead.
Burial: St. Mary's of the Lake Catholic Cemetery, rural Detroit Lakes, MN.
