Dorothy Miller, 89, Moorhead, MN, died Sunday, December 23, 2012, in Golden Living Center in Moorhead.
Dorothy Emma (Erbstoesser) Miller was born May 22, 1923, to Mabel and Frederick Erbstoesser. She attended country school and was proud to have graduated from the 8th grade. Dorothy worked in service to others her entire life. She started out working for her Grandma Ida Erbstoesser and when she moved to Fargo, worked at the 5 Spot, Bluebird Cafe, Silver Moon and Quality Bakery. Dorothy was also a Bluebird leader and a Cub Scout Den Mother with her children.
Dorothy and Merlin "Smokey" Miller were married June 29, 1951 and made their home in Moorhead for 55 years before his death in 2006. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school for many years.
Dorothy enjoyed working in her many flower beds and helping Merlin garden. Her biggest enjoyment was cooking and baking for her family. Grandma Dorothy made cut out sugar cookies for every holiday, not just Christmas. She was most proud of the sequin and felt stockings she spent many hours stitching for every family member.
Jigsaw puzzles, playing cards and bingo also filled her days and evenings. Dorothy enjoyed playing bingo as often as she could at the Golden Living Center where she resided at the time of her death.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; husband Merlin "Smokey"; son Gary; twin sister, Doris Jensen; sister, Delores Basher; and brothers, Herbert, Daniel, Franklin, and Frederick "Shorty".
She is survived by daughter, Faye Miller, Inkster,ND; sons, Lee Miller and Matt (Sheree) Miller, both Moorhead; daughter-in-law, Rita Miller, Fargo; grandchildren, Susan (Bryan) Sand, Derek (Greta) Miller, Kerry Miller, Nichole (Jon) Boice, Heather Miller and Stacy (Nate) Anderson and Abby (Adam) Hoefs; great grandchildren: Addy, Ethan, Kenzie, Bentley, Beckett, Parnell, Owen and Zoey; brother, Jack (JoAnne) Erbstoesser; sister, Darlene (Herman) Peterson; sisters-in-law, Elsie Larson and Janice Erbstoesser; many nieces and nephews also survive
Visitation: Will be one hour prior to funeral, at the church.
Funeral: Thursday, December 27, 2012, at 11:00 AM, in Trinity Lutheran Church, Moorhead.
Interment: Watson Cemetery, Chaffee, ND
