Dorothy Monson

Dorothy Hansmann Monson, 93, of Fargo ND, passed away Monday December 16, 2019, in Villa Maria, Fargo.

Dorothy was born in Moorhead, MN, on January 3, 1926, to Joseph and Gena (Carlson) Hansmann. She attended St Joseph's Catholic grade school and graduated from Moorhead High School. She went on to graduate from Dakota Business College in Fargo.

On May 14, 1960, Dorothy married Donald Monson of Christine, ND, in St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Moorhead. In November of 1960, they bought a home in Fargo where she lived until 2009, at which time she moved to CHI Riverview.

Dorothy spent time in Seattle, WA, training for a job with the National Weather Bureau. She worked for the National Weather Bureau in Montana until the end of WWII. She moved back to Moorhead to work for Bergland Oil Company until 1961. Dorothy stayed home to raise her three children. In 1973, she went to work at A&T Supply Inc. She retired in 1989.

An active member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo, Dorothy taught Sunday School for 18 years and was a prayer chain leader. She also volunteered at Fellowship Night at New Horizons Manor, special needs housing.

Dorothy loved arts and crafts, reading, and doing puzzles. She especially enjoyed playing card games and Scrabble with her grandchildren. She did not let the young ones win.

Dorothy is survived by her son, Dan Monson, Thompson, ND; daughters, Karen (Tim) Halliday, Plano, TX, and Sue Monson, McAllen, TX; five grandchildren, Devin Monson, Adam Monson, Kyle Monson, Erin Halliday, and Brian Halliday; and one great-grandchild, Aelita Monson.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; her parents, Joseph and Gena Hansmann; brothers and sisters, Edward Hansmann, John Hansmann, Mary Peterson, Margaret Ernst, Sr. Regina Hansmann, and Gertrude Smith.

Visitation will be Thursday, December 19, 2019, from 5 - 8 PM, with a prayer service at 7:30 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, December 20, 2019, at 1 PM, in Riverview Place chapel, Fargo.
