Dorothy Pikkaraine

Dorothy V. Pikkaraine, 91, of Moorhead, MN, formerly of Dilworth, MN, died Tuesday, June 9, 2015, in Sanford Health, Fargo, ND.

Dorothy Violet Petrie was born February 26, 1924, the daughter of George and Lillian (Korpi) Petrie, in Ely, MN. She was raised in Minnesota. While living in New York Mills, MN, she worked as a waitress and met her future husband Marvin. During World War II, Dorothy moved to Duluth, MN, working in a K-ration factory helping with the war effort.

After Marvin returned from the war, they were united in marriage on October 31, 1945, in Duluth. They spent most of their married life living in Silver Bay, MN. In 1985, Dorothy and Marvin, moved to Dilworth to be closer to family. Marvin died on November 11, 1994. She continued to make her home in Dilworth until moving to Eventide on Eighth in 2013.

Dorothy enjoyed crocheting, crafts, collecting knickknacks and was an avid Minnesota Twins fan.

She is survived by her children, Marvin Pikkaraine, Jr., Hastings, FL, Donna Alby, Fargo, Lloyd (Mary) Pikkaraine, St. Cloud, MN, and Clyde (Cristina) Pikkaraine, Colorado Spings, CO; grandchildren, Marcus Pikkaraine, Deona (Dino) McEnery II, Ryan (Deborah) Alby, David Pikkaraine, Jennifer (Dale) Campbell, and Jason (Iris) Pikkaraine; nine great-grandchilren; and brother, George (Mary Jo) Petrie, Winter Gardens, FL.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Marvin; sister, Helen Milinkovich; brothers, Floyd and Martin; son-in-law, Milan Alby; and daughter-in-law, Cherie Pikkaraine.

A Visitation for Dorothy will be one hour prior to her funeral service.

Her Funeral Service will be Saturday, June 13, 2015, at 11 AM in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead, MN.

Burial will take place in Woodland Cemetery, New York Mills, MN.
