Dorothy Louise Tennison, 95, of Pelican Rapids, MN , formerly of Moorhead, MN, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 3, 2023.
Dorothy was born May 29, 1928, in Hankinson, ND, to William and Bertha (Milbrandt) Lubenow. She grew up on Pelican Lake in Minnesota and then went on to work as an assistant manager in the Black Building Cafe in Fargo, ND.
On June 25, 1950, she joined hands and hearts with Roy Tennison, and together, they lived a remarkable 70-year journey until Roy's passing in 2020. Throughout their marriage, they built a life together in Moorhead, raising three children and sharing cherished summers on East Silent Lake. In the later years, her selflessness shone brightly as she lovingly cared for her five grandchildren.
Retirement brought new adventures as she and Roy explored the tranquil beauty of lakeside living on East Silent Lake and the desert wonders of Arizona in the winter. Hiking, ATV rides, and flea market hunts became their joyful routine. Dorothy loved bird watching, growing flowers, and soaking in nature while capturing it with pictures or poetry. With her infectious sense of humor and laughter, to her unwavering sweet tooth, Dorothy infused joy in life's moments. Yet, her greatest treasure was her family.
Dorothy's legacy lives on through the lives she touched. She is survived by her loving children, Jeffrey (Janet) Tennison of East Silent Lake Dent, MN, Dannie (Carolyn) Tennison of Nampa, ID, and Julie (Dave) Doxey of Erickson Lake, Lake Park, MN; grandchildren, Damian (Michele) Tennison, Jessica (Dave) Baumgartner, Tara (Jason) Brash, Justin (Alyssa) Tennison, and Josh Doxey; 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy; her parents, William and Bertha; and her brothers, Wilbur, Arnie, and Roy Lubenow.
The family wishes to express heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate teams at Riverfront on Main in Pelican Rapids and Perham Hospital, who provided loving care to Dorothy in her final days.
Visitation will begin at 1 PM, followed by a Memorial Service at 2 PM, Sunday, August 27, 2023, in Korsmo Funeral and Cremation Service, Moorhead. She will be laid to rest next to Roy at Fargo National Cemetery, Harwood, ND.
