Our special Dorothy, a woman of valor, a wife, mother, grandma, and best friend, went home to be with the Lord on February 20, 2005, in Fargo, ND, at the age of seventy-five.
Dorothy Hamre was born June 27, 1929, in Leonard, ND. She grew up in Leonard and Enderlin, ND, through her Sophomore year in high school. The family then moved to Fargo and Dorothy graduated from Central High School.
Dorothy attained a business degree from business colleges in Fargo. She then moved to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she worked as a supervisor in the IBM Dept. at Linkbelt for several years.
Dorothy was united in marriage with Marvin R. Van Zante on October 30, 1954, in Cedar Rapids. Dorothy's love for children captivated her and she cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandma, homemaker, foster care and daycare âmama', and best friend to many. She was involved in church as a volunteer, a prayer group member, and a Red Hat Club member.
Survivors include her husband, Marvin, Fargo; two daughters and two sons, Deborah Doran (Don), Breckenridge, MN, Kevin Van Zante, Fargo, Denise Tift (Neil), Stillwater, MN, and Kelly Van Zante, Battle Lake, MN; three grandchildren, Corey, Andrew, and Hannah; and a brother, Eugene A. Hamre, Fargo.
Visitation: Wednesday, 5 - 7 PM with a Prayer Service at 7 PM, Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead
Funeral Service: Thursday at 2 PM, First Assembly of God, Fargo
Interment: Sunset Memorial Gardens, Fargo
