Douglas Leo Hamstad

Douglas Leo Hamstad, 61, passed away unexpectedly on November 20, 2024 at the age of 61. He was born on April 3, 1963 in Shakopee, Minnesota, the son of Clarence Hamstad and Eleanor (Tellers) Hamstad. Doug grew up on the family farm near Belle Plaine, Minnesota until 1972 and near Sunburg, Minnesota until graduating from Kerkhoven-Murdock-Sunburg High School in 1981. Doug enlisted in the United States Air Force as an Avionics Guidance and Control System Specialist working primarily on C-130 aircraft. During his time in the Air Force, Doug achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant. Doug performed exceptionally in his job field and he became an instructor. Doug served in Mississippi, Arkansas, Spain, Turkey, Egypt and England. After leaving the military in 1991, Doug moved to Dilworth, Minnesota where he worked as an independent contractor, siding hundreds of homes in the Fargo-Moorhead area. He also completed roof snow removal and gutter cleaning jobs on the side. Doug retired from fulltime work in 2023.

 Doug was beloved by friends and family. He will be remembered as a jack of all trades, a man of principle and as someone who was always willing to help others. Those who knew him appreciated his selflessness, kindness, hard work ethic, and sense of humor. Doug will be greatly missed. 

Doug is survived by four siblings, Mary Hamstad of Willmar, Minnesota, Delores Prahl of Benson, Minnesota, Joseph (and Lois) Hamstad of Spicer, Minnesota and Robert (and Yvonne) Hamstad of Mora, Minnesota. He is also survived by 17 nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Eleanor Hamstad, and his siblings Richard Hamstad, Michael Hamstad and Rita Hamstad.

 A memorial service will be provided at the Alibi, Baymont Inn and Suites in Fargo, North Dakota on Saturday, December 14 at 3:00 pm. Burial will be held at a later date next Spring at the Fargo National Veterans Cemetery.
