Dr. Donald L. Stock

Dr. Donald L. Stock, age 94, of Moorhead, MN, died Tuesday, December 1, 2015, in Essentia Health, Fargo, ND.
Donald Luverne Stock, son of Verne and Cornelia (Walters) Stock, was born November 6, 1921, in Buttzville, ND. He grew up in the Sheldon-Lisbon, ND area, and graduated from high school in Lisbon in 1939.
Donald enlisted in the US Navy, and served in the Atlantic aboard the USS Gannet, which was sunk by an enemy torpedo. Later he became a naval pilot and flew a PBM Catalina aircraft, in the Pacific Theatre of War. While in the navy, Donald was married to Harriett Holliston on November 28, 1942. After his discharge, Donald attended college in Bemidji, MN, and dental school at the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis.
In 1955, the family moved to Fargo and Dr. Stock began his dental practice in Moorhead. In 1957, the family moved to Moorhead. He retired in 1990, after 35 years of practice. His wife, Harriett, died on March 25, 1996.
In November of 1997, Donald married Dorothy Helen Balzum. They continued to live in the FM area. Dorothy died on October 20, 2012. After her death, Donald continued to live in Moorhead, most recently in Eventide Fairmont.
Donald was active in his church and community. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the American Dental Association, and a number of community groups. He enjoyed gardening, golfing, fishing and hunting. He also built a number of model ships from scratch, not kits, which are truly works of art.
He is survived by seven children, Cheryl (Jerry) Colwell, Rockford, IL, Teri Netland, St. Paul Park, MN, Patty (John) Elias, White Bear Lake, MN, Paul (Jeanette) Stock, Buffalo, ND, Thomas (Cindy) Stock, Kansas City, MO, Curtis (Cheryl) Stock, Fargo, and Kathy (Terre) Thiel, Moorhead; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a brother, Roger Stock, Bismarck, ND; and seven stepchildren, Randy Balzum, Jeri Melsness, Jeanne Schreiner, Connie Estenson, Charles Balzum, Patrice Amick, and Dawn Pila. In addition to his wives, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
Visitation for Dr. Stock will be Sunday, from 4 PM until 7 PM, with a prayer service at 7 PM, in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. His funeral mass will be Monday, December 7, 2015, at 11 AM in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Moorhead, Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery, Moorhead.
