Dr. James "Jim" Danielson

Dr. James L. Danielson, "Jim Dandy," passed away peacefully at his home in Moorhead, MN, on September 20, 2018. He had recently celebrated his 80th birthday.

Jim was born on May 6, 1938, in Lake Bronson, MN, to Silas and Alice Danielson. He grew up in Lake Bronson with his siblings, Karen Bodelson, Marcene Bakken, Dr. Byron Danielson and Renee "Pooka" Danielson. They were a close family and he always enjoyed spending time with them.

Jim got his undergraduate degree from Concordia College, Moorhead, and his Ph. D. from the University of Minnesota. In 1967, he moved with his wife, Jean, to Denton, TX. There he taught Political Science for 30 years at North Texas State University. He also helped raise his two sons, Cekiel, Singapore, and Silas (Kristy), Mankato, MN. He loved spending time with and talking about his boys.

In 1988, he moved to Moorhead, and finished his teaching career at Minnesota State University Moorhead. He also served a term on the Moorhead City Council.

Jim enjoyed teaching, sharing his opinions and spending time with family and friends. At the age of 78, he published a book sharing his bold views on the state of American culture and politics. He was active in local community organizations and a regular contributor to multiple charities. He also enjoyed fishing and owned a place at Leech Lake for many years.

Jim loved singing in the Fargo-Moorhead Master Chorale. He sang with the group for more than 25 years and had recently been asked to sing with the group for another year. He often bragged about the group's performances. Jim also took pride in making his famous peanut brittle and ginger snaps and would share them with family and friends around the community.

Jim is survived by his sons, Cekiel and Silas (Kristy); his sisters and brother, Karen, Marcene, Byron and Renee; and his grandchildren, Cate, Alex, Carter, Jared, Adam and Nicole.

He was loved by many and will be missed.

There will be a memorial service held in the Concordia College Centrum at 2 PM on Saturday, October 6, 2018, with a visitation one hour prior.
