Dr. Roger M. Cocking, 93, Sunburg, MN, formerly of Glyndon, MN, died Sunday, March 12, 2006, in Rice Memorial Hospital, Willmar, MN.

Roger Milton Cocking was born January 15, 1913, to Joseph L. and Katharine S. (Haltmeyer) Cocking in Manchester, IA, where he grew up and graduated from high school. Roger then attended Iowa State University, Ames, IA, and graduated with a degree in veterinary medicine. He returned to Manchester where he practiced veterinary medicine until the fall of 1934, when he moved back to Ames to teach at the University.

On July 14, 1934, Roger married Dorothy Brownbridge in Des Moines, IA. They lived in Ames for three years. In 1951, they moved to Colorado Springs, CO, where Roger was a veterinarian and where they were involved with the "Christian Home for Children". In 1967, Roger retired and they moved several times because Roger worked as a traveling preacher. They eventually settled in Glydon in 1980.

Dorothy died on December 15, 1986, and Roger continued to live in Glyndon until 1990, when he moved to Sunburg to live with family.

Roger is survived by two sons, Paul (Anne) Cocking, Fort Collins, CO, and Dr. Jim (Carla) Cocking, Guatemala; two daughters, Dorothy (David) Van Hal, Sunburg, and Elizabeth Hathaway, Colorado Springs, CO; a sister, Jessie Edquist, Edina, MN; eleven grandchildren,Ruth Cocking, Seth (Terry) Cocking, John (Martha) Fowler, Sarah, Cocking, Chris (Letabeth) Van Hal, Eric (Jennifer) Wiinanen, Peter Van Hal, Nate (Lisa) Hathaway, Barry Hathaway, Andrew Cocking, and Adam Cocking; and twelve great-grandchildren, Rebecca Van Hal, Micah Van Hal, Isaac Wiinanen, Josiah Wiinanen, Noah Wiinanen, Benjamin Wiinanen, Abigail Hathaway, Elijah, Hathaway, Benjamin Hathaway, Anna Fowler, Abigail Fowler, and Meghan Cocking.


Memorial Service: Saturday, March 18, 2006 at 2 PM,
Meadow Ridge Bible Chapel, West Fargo, ND


Burial: Riverside Cemetery, Glyndon
