Duaine Weiner Howland, the son of Weiner and Mathilda (Hanson) Howland, was born in Caledonia, ND, on Oct. 25, 1924. He grew up in Nielsville, MN, and in Climax, MN, where he graduated from high school in 1942.
In 1944, Duaine enlisted in the US Marine Corps. He served overseas in the Pacific. Following his discharge in 1946, he lived in California, and later returned to Nielsville. He also lived in the Minneapolis, MN, area prior to moving to Moorhead.
On Jan. 31, 1954, Duaine was united in marriage to Jean L. Travers, at Hoople, ND. They lived in Moorhead, except for five years, when they lived in the twin cities. Duaine worked as a service manager for Pitney Bowes for 35 years and retired in 1986.
Following retirement, Jean and Duaine lived in Moorhead. His wife, Jean, died on December 27, 2001.
Duaine died Saturday, May 22, 2010, at his home in Moorhead, under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Harley; and a sister, Carol Neilsen.
He is survived by his children, Brian (Kristen) Howland, Savage, MN, and Brenda (Kyle) Cigelske, Moorhead; a brother, Morris (Alice) Howland, Big Stone City, SD; and four grandchildren, Zachary Howland and Anthony, Tristen and Tanya Nelson.

Memorial Service: Tuesday, May 25, 2010, at 1 PM , at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, Moorhead.
Inurnment: Evergreen Memorial Cemetery, Moorhead.
