Dwayne D. Montis

Dwayne D. Montis, 65, Hawley, MN, died Monday February 24, 2020 in Sanford Hospice House in Fargo, ND.
Dwayne David Montis was born May 13, 1954, in Colorado City, TX, to Fred and Marcelle (Banks) Montis. After graduating high school, he attended the Technical-Vocational Institute in Albuquerque, NM.
On September 17, 1987, Dwayne was united in marriage to Kristine Kowitz. They made their home in Gallup, NM for the next 18 years followed by time in Norman, OK, Sault Ste.Marie, MI, and finally here in Hawley. During his working career in New Mexico, he drove heavy equipment in coal and uranium mines and then worked for El Paso Natural Gas Company, Wingate Plant, which processed and transferred raw natural gas. While living in Oklahoma, Dwayne worked for a John Deere dealership assembling various types of equipment. During the later years of his working career, Dwayne worked in maintenance for various schools.
Dwayne had many interests. He loved working in his yard. Observing natural landscapes and watching wildlife were his favorite vacation activities. His dogs, Abraham (pug) and Sampson (Boston terrier), were his cherished friends. And Dwayne loved working with his hands. He built, modified and drove radio-controlled trucks, which went hand in hand, with his love of tinkering on small engines and appliances.
He was a man of simple nature, but deep faith. He was an active member at The Lutheran Church of Christ the King in Moorhead. Dwayne's family will miss his delightful sense of humor, his willingness to help anyone in need and his love for family, friends and the outdoors.
Dwayne is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kristine Montis of Hawley; two brothers, Bill Montis of Corpus Christi, TX, and Emmett Montis of California.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, and one brother, Fred.
A Celebration of Life will be held Thursday, March 5, 2020, at 10:30am in Korsmo Funeral Chapel, Moorhead. A gathering of family and friends will be held one hour prior to service.
